Congratulations to all the homeschool families that celebrated graduations this year. It’s such a wonderful accomplishment. I can’t believe that next year BusyGirl will graduate and I will “retire”my homeschool mommy hat. I’m already experiencing anticipatory grief! Mommas love your little ones and make a pile of memories!
Did you ever have one of those weeks where your prayer list grows? This week, our extended family was hit with some serious health related stuff. My heart is heavy. Would you pray for our family? I cherish your prayers.
HTHL’s West Coast Tour begins this week! Please pray for safe travels as I make my way down the coast from the state of Washington to Ontario, California for the Great Homeschool Convention. I am looking forward to meeting California homeschool families! Scroll to the bottom to check out my workshops. BTW-At the GHC, you will get to meet the most amazing lady of all times, my mom. Come by HTHL’s booth and say hi to the lady that led me to faith!
Summer Writing Fun
How do you keep your child practicing and enjoying the skill of writing during the summer break? This summer, HTHL’s Writing Tip of the Week will feature 10 fun ideas to keep your child writing!
Summer Writing Project# 2 Create a Photo Journal
- Make a book using the instructions found on the HTHL resource toolbar on “How to Make an Essay Folder.”
- Or purchase a journal type book with blank pages.
- Choose a theme for the photo journal.
It can be as simple as My Backyard to Our Day at the Zoo.
- Instruct your child to take enough pictures to tell a story.
- Print and arrange photos in the journal.
- Younger children can be encouraged to write or dictate one sentence per picture.
- Older children can be encouraged write more details and parts of the story that are not in the picture.
Here are just a few writing skills your child will pick up in the name of “fun”!
- Practice telling a story with a beginning, middle, and end.
- Using descriptive words.
Snap, Write, and Capture Memories!
Summer photo journals are also a great way to capture summer memories!

“Here to Help Learning’s Writing Program is perfect for the family or group class in need of an enthusiastic instructor. The courses are very easy-to-use and enjoyable for both students and adults. They also make it possible to teach children together if they are within a few grade levels of one another. The Christian aspects of the course—memory verses, mentions of faith and God throughout the courses, and activities that stress Christianity in action—are more thoroughly and effectively integrated than in most other Christian writing courses.”–Cathy Duffy (Curriculum Review)
